Environmental care is part of how we make, operate and grow.
Environmental concerns form part of our company policy. Our approach combines waste reduction, resource recovery, responsible effluent treatment and long-term investment in renewable energy and green assets.
Paper, plastic and cardboard are separated for recycling through our waste reduction scheme. Effluent from the dyeing plant is treated in three stages: chemical and physical treatment, a biological process and an artificial lagoon.
These processes are designed to meet local and international environmental norms. Parameters are regularly checked by an accredited institute, and Eskimo has been awarded an Environmental Protection License (EPL) each year.
Outgoing water is independently tested every three months, with the final outlet to the watercourse meeting local legislation. We consider this treatment not only essential, but ethically and morally expected of a family business with close ties to its community.
We use a combination of renewable biomass and non-renewable electricity and diesel. At Negombo, steam generated from the biomass boiler serves the dye house and steam tables, while electricity meets other energy requirements. Electricity is the main source at Pallekele and Punanai, with diesel primarily used to fuel backup generators.
Our 1.5 MW rooftop solar energy project began in 2020 with the commissioning of the first batch of panels at the Negombo factory, supporting a lower-carbon energy mix across our operations.
Nearly seven acres of tree plantation cover around 35% of the Negombo main facility. This green asset reflects Eskimo's long-standing carbon responsibility and makes a meaningful contribution to reducing our footprint.
